Living the Dharma in Daily Life

Marin Sangha is a mindfulness meditation (vipassana) group in Marin County that puts special emphasis on living the dharma in daily life. The Sangha was founded in 1998 by Phillip Moffitt.

The evening's agenda includes guided meditations and insightful talks that draw upon various aspects of the Buddha's teachings. Our principal teachers are Donald Rothberg and Dawn Scott, and we also host many other teachers of diverse backgrounds and disciplines.

Sangha means "community". Since our inception in 1998, Marin Sangha has been committed to creating a safe and welcoming community where dharma students can come and explore how Buddhist teachings might unfold in their everyday lives. We invite people at any level of meditation experience and beginners are especially welcome.

Currently, our Sunday meetings are live-streamed. We start at 6:00 PM (Pacific Time) and finish usually by 7:30.

We will also occasionally meet in-person at St. Luke Church, 10 Bayview Drive, San Rafael. When we meet in person, we also offer online connection, so on those nights you can join us either way!

Dana (generosity) Practice

In the Buddhist tradition, the teachings are given freely because they are considered priceless; That means there's no fee for attending our weekly meeting. Instead, we practice dana, or generosity. Dana isn't payment for goods or services but an expression of gratitude. We offer dana to our teachers since many of them have no other means of support, and use it to pay for our insurance, internet, and other operational costs.

It's easy to forget dana when you don't have collection boxes in the back of the room, so please be as generous as comfortably possible. To offer dana to our teachers, please click on their name in the schedule or look them up on the Teachers page. There you will find instructions on how to make an offering.

We need to pay for internet, insurance, and other operational costs. To offer dana to Marin Sangha, please visit our donation page, http://www.marinsangha.org/donate.

Another way to practice dana is through service. Significant effort goes into sustaining the Sangha. The Board of Directors is always looking for new people to help with logistics. It's a great opportunity to make friends and deepen your dharma practice.
